Question by Robert O: Why are the graduate chapter in Dallas not having “RUSH” for Delta Sigma Theta.?
I have been trying to become a member for 3 year now. I have been going to several event through out the years. I hold Master level degree, I am active in my community: Church event, BBBS. I also organized community workshop on how protect your money in this market. I have good jobs making a six figure salary. My family member who are AKA have been trying to get me to go that route but my heart is with DST. Any suggestion!!

There can be many reasons why the Dallas Alum chapter is not hosting a rush. Unlike undergrad chapters, there is not always a need to host a rush! I know one chapter in particular that hasn’t intake in over 10 years. Unlike undergrad chapters, as long as the grad chapter has plenty of members that are working hard for delta then at times there is no need for intake.

In the meantime, I would suggest that you continue to support this chapter because when and if the time comes and they have a rush, then they will remember your dedication to the chapter. So in a nutshell, there is really nothing you can do at this point regarding rush….It’s all left up to the chapter!

Good luck to you!

Blockbuster to File Chapter 11

Blockbuster to File Chapter 11

Blockbuster Inc. (PINK:BLOKA) is preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy within the next few days, a source familiar with the video rental chain’s plans said on Wednesday.

The Dallas-based retailer said earlier this year it would close nearly 10 percent of its stores. Customers have moved away from renting films through its outlets in favor of online services such as Netflix.

It is carrying some 0 million of debt, according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The company is working with debtholders on a plan, under which it would continue operating but shutter hundreds more stores, said the source, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the situation. A bankruptcy filing is expected as early as Wednesday.

The details were originally reported in the Wall Street Journal.

Under the proposed plan, senior bondholders would convert about 0 million of debt into equity of the restructured company. The other bondholders would be wiped out, according to this source.

“We continue to explore all of our options and are making good progress in our recapitalization process,” Blockbuster said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.

“Our discussions with the studios and bondholders continue to be productive, and we have every reason to believe we will come out of the recapitalization process financially stronger and more competitively positioned for the future.”

Investor Carl Icahn holds about one-third of the senior debt, the source said.

Icahn was not immediately available to comment.

Senior bondholders have agreed to provide the company with a loan of about 5 million to help support operations while it is under bankruptcy protection, according to the source.

The company said in its statement that it had the support “of a wide range of parties” and that it was working on putting in place “a more appropriate capital structure to support Blockbuster’s long-term growth, including investments in our multi-channel platform and new opportunities.”

As of early this year, Blockbuster had more than 6,500 stores in the United States and internationally. The company has introduced a movie download service to move beyond retail locations, but that service lags behind Netflix’s offerings.

Blockbuster rival Movie Gallery Inc filed for bankruptcy in February. Though the operator of the Hollywood Video rental chain initially planned to reorganize, by May it had decided to liquidate entirely.

Curious Folks Ask (Preface & Chapter 3): Body Parts Reviews

Curious Folks Ask (Preface & Chapter 3): Body Parts

This download is a chapter from Curious Folks Ask: 162 Real Answers on Amazing Inventions, Fascinating Products, and Medical Mysteries (ISBN: 0137057385) by Sherry Seethaler. Available in print and digital formats.

Read the following excerpt from the Preface:

Inquiring minds want to know. What’s the big deal about low-carb diets? What causes muscle aches when you get the flu? How did the ancient Egyptians build the Giza Pyramids? Does it matter what brand of gasoline you buy? Could adult stem cells have as much promise as embryonic stem cells? Is a horsepower really the power of one horse? Does chocolate cause acne? What makes glue sticky? How is it possible to design bifocal contact lenses? What causes dandruff?

And sometimes, inquiring minds ask questions that other inquiring minds did not even realize they wanted to know. Why do we get skin cancer from sun-damaged skin when damaged cells are continually sloughing off and being replaced? What causes out-of-body experiences? Is the Star Wars lightsaber possible? Are there beneficial viruses, just as there are beneficial bacteria? Why do some people have second toes that are longer than their big toes? Is increased environmental noise leading to increased violence? With their unwieldy number system, how did the ancient Romans engineer their magnificent buildings?

These are some of the 162 questions compiled in this science Q&A anthology. The questions come from real people who range in age from high schoolers to octogenarians (and probably even younger and older folks too). Some of them are scientists, and others tell me, “I’m not a science person, but I’ve always wanted to know…” What they share is a deep curiosity about the world around them. The questions and answers in Curious Folks Ask can rekindle the natural wonder about science and the world around us that we all shared as children but that frequently gets pushed aside in formal education settings.
