Can the Right MUSIC help you win at Texas Holdem Poker?

How many times have you seen a poker pro experience a bad beat and immediately place the earphones of their MP3 or IPod Player on?

Dozens, hundreds, maybe even more?

If you think they are listening to AC DC, Big & Rich, Lynard Skynard, or the Steve Miller Band, you would be wrong. They are listening to psychologically congruent music that has been proven at a leading University to improve their concentration & poker game.

This is probably the one secret that the pros hope amateurs players don’t discover. They would much rather you listen to the popular music of today, that has been proven to have and adverse effect on your concentration and your poker game.

Listen, I understand that this sounds to good to be true, put I accidentally got my hands on a track of this music when I stumble on a website called OnlinePokerU.com. I assume the U. stands for University.

I can not begin to express the difference listening to this music has made on my game, both offline and online. What kind of music is it? It is indescribable. It is like a combination of house & chamber music; you may still be able to hear a sample at http://www.OnlinePokerU.com.

Anyway, pay attention to this. I predict that in the future you will see more and more research and information on this subject, even though the pros are trying to keep this secret for their self.

Whatever you do, don’t play the popular music of today when playing Texas Holdem or any Poker game online or off line. Avoid this temptation. No matter what you feel, this music is not helping your game.

You need to play carefully in Texas holdem pre-flop if you want to win get your pre-flop right and you can drop out when you have no chance of winning and stay in when you do.

Here are some Texas holdem pre-flop tips to help you win and win big!

Texas Holdem Pre-flop Tip 1 – Number of Players

Firstly, you need to consider the number of players at the table.

For example, with 10 players for example, there is a better chance of someone having a good hand, than in games with fewer players.

Players need to be more conservative and less aggressive larger games as more players mean the odds of you having the best hand decrease.

Texas Holdem pre-flop Tip 2 – Players Playing Style

Look at all the other players and how they are playing their hands. Adapt your strategy accordingly to take them on and beat them.

If you see a player is raising every hand pre-flop, you need to be playing tighter.

You can then remove them from the table when you have a good enough hand in the pocket pre-flop.

Texas Holdem pre-flop Tip 3 – Your Chips

If you only have a small number of chips play carefully and select one hand to bet on, hoping to get as many players involved as possible for a good size pot.

In reverse if you have a large amount of chips, you can afford to take the higher-risk higher payout bets and play in amore aggressive style as you have the bankroll to back you up.

Texas Holdem pre flop Tip 4 – Table Position

It’s a basic fact that players in late positions can influence

the size of the pot more than players in early position and you need to always keep this in mind.

This is critical in the pre-flop period.

If you are in early position you simply have limited idea of what other players have and this should dictate your play.

Players must be cautious when playing hands from early position.

Players in late position can play weaker hands with less fear of loss.

Texas Holdem pre flop Tip 5 – Know the Hands to play

Which hands are most likely to yield a win in pre-flop?

There is a lot of free material that will help you determine the odds, until they become second nature to you, so make use of them playing and calculating the odds in this period is critical.

Tip 6 – Waiting for the right play

Perhaps the most important pre-flop skill to learn is to be patient unemotional and play with discipline waiting for the right hand to play.

This means only playing when the odds are in your favor

You have to beat all the other players and on a table of 10 for example, the statistics will be that your hand is simply not good enough most of the time.

Everyone wants to play for big pots, but if you play too often you will end up a loser.

An advantage of being out of the pot, will mean you can study other players style from a detached point of view to give you valuable information on their playing style, to use against them later!

Texas Holdem pre-flop Tip 7 – Practice

As we all know Texas Holdem is a game of psychology and this starts in pre-flop.

It takes a good deal of practice to master the tips above. They are all easy on paper, but different when you are playing with real money on the line.

Don’t expect overnight results – Practice makes perfect, so play on lower stakes tables and work your way up to harder games as you gain experience.

In time you will be able to implement all the tips above and start to win big in Texas holdem.

Texas holdem is the poker player’s game of choice and where the big prize money is to be made. Many players want to play Texas Holdem to win and win big.

Here we will cover the basics to get you started on your route to playing Texas Holdem and hopefully winning some big pots.

In its no limit form, it is used now in world class poker tournaments, and is the most popular of all the poker games today by far.

The game is played from two to ten players usually, though it can accommodate up to 22.

Playing the Game

To begin, the dealer will deal 2 cards face down to each player (these are known as a players ‘hole cards’).

The first round of betting will then follow immediately.

As the initial round of betting completes, the dealer will deal the first 3 ‘community cards’ face up (this is also called the ‘flop’). The second round of betting then follows.

At this point, the dealer will deal the 4th community card, again face up (called the ‘turn’ or fourth street). The third round of betting then follows.

The dealer will deal 5th community card face up (called the ‘river’ or fifth street), and the 4th and then the final round of betting begins.

All players use any combination of their 2 hole cards plus the 5 community cards to create the best possible 5 card poker hand.

The highest scoring hand then wins the pot and the hand is completed

Rules and Playing Etiquette

Although it’s a relatively easy game to learn, there is still a great deal of strategy to follow if you aim to win. Let’s start with the basics of the game and the order of play.

Where you happened to be sitting can be crucial in Texas Hold’em.

For example, if you are the last to act on a particular hand, it allows you to watch and react to what opponents are doing.

Keep in mind if your first you are at severe disadvantage as you do not know how to react as the players have given you no indication of how strong or weak their hands might be.

The rule is that the dealer is always the last to act in a given round of Texas Hold’em.

So, in order to keep the game fair, there is dealer rotation around the table.

The ‘dealer’ (or virtual dealer) has the advantage of acting last for any round. After the end of every round the dealer button rotates one player clockwise.

In Texas Hold’em not every player will paying an ante.

Instead, the first 2 players to the left of the dealer must post ‘blind bets’ before the dealer deals the first 2 cards.

They are known as ‘blind bets’ as the player pays the bets before seeing their cards. They therefore enter the game ‘blind’ with no idea how strong or weak their hand is

Actually the first player to the left of the dealer makes a ‘small blind’ bet, and the second player to the left of the dealer makes a ‘big blind’ bet. This works in the following way

The ‘big blind’ bet will equal the small bet, and the ‘small blind’ bet will be about half of the small bet.

For example a $20/$40 game would have a big blind of $20 and a small blind of $10. The first round of betting use the blinds to begin

Therefore, the $20 big blind would be the starting amount players must call to remain in the hand.

Also if no players raise the starting bet, the blinds are not required to re-pay their bet to remain.

That is, if no player raises the starting bet the big blind would not need to pay anything more to stay in, the small blind would have to pay the balance of the $20 bet, which in this case would be $10 to remain.

Also, it’s crucial to remember that players ‘hole cards’ are only as good as the community cards. What does this effectively mean?

It means that having an A-K in the hole is not very good odds for the player.

If the community cards are, say Q-Q-9-9-J. The cards do not match into any hand of value.

Furthermore, it can be assumed some other player could make a full house of queens or nines!

Finally, it’s very useful to watch the flop.

You can gauge the quality of your hand as 5 of your 7 cards can tell you how good your hand is in relation to the others, by watching the way they bet or react.

The Best Hand Does Not Always Win!

This covers the basics of Texas Holdem; the rest is strategy and experience.

Texas Holdem is a game of psychology and not always the best hand wins.

The psychology of Texas Holdem is not learned over night. It takes a long time and you need practice on how to play your cards, or more importantly the players you are competing with.

It is the psychological aspect that makes the game so exciting. In Texas Holdem it’s a brutal battle where only the strong survive but if you can the rewards can be immense.

Good Luck!

No Limit Texas Hold’em tips and strategy guide. (http://www.nlholdemtips.com)

The two key factors you need to have in mind during a texas hold’em game are:
In this order

What does my opponent have and what is he doing?
What do I have and what am I doing?

Introduction

This entire section is my personal opinion on the game based on my 10+ years of playing poker both off and online. I’m not a professional poker player nor do I intend to be one, I do however love the game and the adventure it is and have inevitably, over time, acquired some points of view. These are not absolute theories. There are so many factors in the game that it is impossible to cover them all. The beauty of this game is that it’s so organic that only experience will bring you true instinctive wisdom. These are general guidelines covering No Limit Texas Hold’em. Both ring and tournament play. These tips and strategies mean to help and guide beginners and enthusiasts of Texas Hold’em poker. If you’re experienced it won’t hurt to take a look. As with everything, texas hold’em is life long learning process. This is how I see the game thus far.

What is a good starting hand? Well in my view any hand is a good starting hand and any hand is a bad starting hand. It all depends on what your position is, who your opponents are and how big your stack is and finnaly what type of game you’re in (ring or tournament). But before any of those considerations here are the:

Top 5 starting hands

AA

The “Rockets” (see poker lingo for more terms) The best possible starting hand in Texas Hold’em.

KK

QQ

AK

JJ

If you have any of these hands you should always consider rasing or re-raising pre-flop.
Below are the remaining top starting hands.

AQ

KQ

AJ

KJ

A10

Other good starting hands are:

Any pocket pair besides the ones already listed above

Any suited connectors*

Any connectors*

Any one gap suited connectors*

Any one gap connectors*

*suited connectors are 2 connecting cards in the same suit – ex: 910
connectors are 2 connecting cards offsuit – ex: 9 10
one gap suited connectors are 2 cards with one gap between them – ex: 810
one gap connectors are 2 connecting cards with one gap offsuit – ex: 8 10

You will notice that suited cards are relevant in some cases. But only in some cases. Many players like to play any two suited cards to try and catch a flush* (*see poker hand ranking). However having any two suited cards is not an advantage and will get you in trouble.Iif you call many hands just because you’re cards are suited you are making a mistake. Don’t do this. You will lose in the long run. You only flop flushes about 30% of the time.

Bad Starting Hands

Any two cards not mentioned above. The weakest hand you can start with is 7-2 offsuit. Don’t get envolved in pots with hands that are not listed above. There are exceptions, of course, but we’ll approach that later.

Texas Hold’em Enthusiast

How to play Texas Holdem is a question that many up incoming poker players ask. Also, being successful in online texas holdem is a lot of passionate poker player’s dreams.

When many players come into Sit-N-Go’s, they just have one thing in mind which is making the money. Many players will just sit there and play hardly any hands, until they actually are in the money. They avoid the action early on unless they have a monster hand. If you notice one of these players, take notes on them (note taking will be discussed in the next chapter) and think about why they may be holding before you commit almost all your chips against them.

Players that play solely for any place in the money typically sit back and watch others knock each other out. Once they get in the money they will start to loosen up, constantly trying to double up often or they will continue to play tight and hope that the other two in the money will knock each other out before their blinds are ate up.

A lot of people ask, “What is the best strategy to use if you’re just trying to make the money?” The answer to this question is to play very tight throughout the Sit-N-Go tournament. In most Sit-N-Go’s you will enter, you will play and win just enough hands early on to give you a chip stack to last you throughout the tournament. So it’s wise to play tight until the money and then once you reach the money you should GREATLY loosen up your game. Understand that you are already in the money, so if you can double up once or twice and even knock out a person, then it’s smooth sailing from here to win. Obviously, you can’t be guaranteed first every time. It just AINT gonna happen. Bad beats are a part of poker, being able to not tilt is another.

Here are some more great tips in securing first place in a Sit-N-Go. When you play for first place you must remember that to become a winning Sit-N-Go player, you will have to shoot for first place every time rather than just worrying about making the money. Trying to just hold on to make 3rd place and into the money will not cut it if that’s your general outlook on the situation. Clearly, sometimes you will have a huge chip lead over the other players and you have nothing other than first in mind, but what I am talking about is when you’re sitting at the lower to middle end of tournament chips. You must always remember that the house usually takes a pretty big portion of every Sit-N-Go buy in, 10% which is kind of ridiculous. If you try making 3rd and that is it, your profits won’t be very much and you will not be able to make a living playing Sit-N-Go’s with this mindset. You have to mentally prepare yourself for first every time! A first place finish usually pays 2-3 times more than third so just because you make it into the money you CAN’T LET UP!

To win first, you’re going to have to mix in a tight game plan with aggressive play, but still play smart at all times. You need to play tight in the early stages, while still taking chances as well. Since the blinds during this time will be minute, you can take more chances and if you happen to lose a large part of your stack then the blinds still will not threaten your stack. When I say CHANCES, I mean favorable chances, such as a flush draw with over cards, open ended, etc…I see this a lot on Full Tilt Poker or Paradise Poker.

Remember, your goal is to build your chips in the middle stage to prepare for the final stage. Once you develop a comfortable stack, you can boss around the table and force people out when you’re normally couldn’t. It will be better to go out early than to bubble by trying to hold on until third place. There is nothing wrong with third place, I mean you are still making money; it just takes 3 third place wins to equal the profit of one first place win. Just remember, poker is unpredictable the way the cars fall, and sometimes the hands go your way and they don’t. You may have to wait until the middle round before you even get a hand to start building your stack for the late stages.

To win first, you’re going to have to mix in a tight game plan with aggressive play, but still play smart at all times. Punish your opponent for bluffing and show them who is boss. Practice, Practice, Practice…you CAN’T get enough of this. Learn poker, every aspect of it. Online Texas Holdem provides lots of excitement for a passionate poker player especially if you’re winning time after time. Knowing your poker odds heads up will also cause you lots of success.
