Scuba Diving In Texas Can Open A Whole New World

While some might say there’s quite enough excitement above the surface of the water, Texas residents might want to consider a whole new world that beckons.


It’s the world of scuba diving — strapping on a tank and equipping yourself with the proper diving equipment to explore all that the world of underwater has to offer.


For those living in the cities of Dallas, Houston and Austin, exploring the world of scuba diving may mean traveling to the coast of Texas, along the Gulf of Mexico. But there are also numerous opportunities inland, with training facilities, including one in Athens, southeast of Dallas, available for training and recreation.


Those choosing to take up scuba diving will have lots of company, with an estimated 3 million Americans now certified scuba divers, many of them Texas residents.


While there are scuba diving possibilities in and around Texas, including the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, many scuba enthusiasts head to the warm waters of the eastern and western Caribbean, where coral reefs and marine life are aplenty. Some opt to stay at one or more of the hundreds of land-based resorts from which they can dive — or learn to dive — but many divers will want to stay on a boat, either crewed charter boats (in the eastern Caribbean) or live-aboard dive vessels (in the western area).


On a dive boat the crews are diving professionals, many being instructors who can help with a new diver getting certified or checked out if it’s been awhile since a person’s last dive. Charter captains know the most popular dive spots and have a few not-so-well-known favorites of their own. All of the boats have dive equipment on board and most have compressors to keep the dive tanks full.


Land-based vacationers may have to travel in a small open boat for an hour or more to get to a dive site, but those on a charter or dive boat are already there. Plus, they aren’t limited to one area; they can dive from one island one day and another the next. Indeed, on a live-aboard dive boat in the western Caribbean, a vacationer can travel more than 100 miles over the water during a typical seven-day trip.


It’s also often less expensive to charter — with food and drinks included — than to stay in a hotel or resort. Extras that hotels may tack on to a bill – - like rental fees for equipment — are almost always included in the charter fee.


There are many options for learning how to scuba. Open Water certification, which includes classroom sessions, a pool dive where you learn to use the scuba equipment, and four open-water dives, can be obtained in as little as four or five days. An increasingly popular certification method is to take the classroom portion and pool instruction at home, and then have your instructor write a letter of referral to a dive instructor in the Caribbean.


In the eastern Caribbean, especially the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, there are at least 40 yachts available with a certified diving instructor so you can learn right on board. The kinds of boats available range from 80-foot motor yachts and sprawling catamarans to smaller sailboats that cater to couples. Each boat and crew is different, but they all want their clients to have a great time.


If scuba diving isn’t exactly what you want, but you still want to check things out, snorkeling can be a wonderful way to get a window on what’s below. In St. John, USVI, as an example, there is a marked snorkeling trail in Trunk Bay maintained by the U.S. National Park Service.


Another benefit of crewed charters is the ability to dive after the sun goes down. Some 80% of all marine life emerge only at night, but with underwater flashlights, a diver is all set.


Live-aboard dive vessel operators say a diver is four times more likely to see large marine animals like manta rays, dolphins and whales than they are staying at a land-based resort.

How Much Does it cost To Open A Restaurant?

Asking “How much does it cost to open a restaurant?” is like asking how much to buy a house, or to buy a car. While there are some guidelines to consider, the actual answer is determined by so many different factors, there is no way to set an accurate price that covers all different situations. Each restaurant is unique, and the price tag for each restaurant will be unique.

When you begin to examine how much it costs to open a restaurant you first need to have a very clear idea of what, and where you want your restaurant to be. Where you locate your restaurant will be partially determined by where you are already located. That will be a big determining factor on the price of your location. In general, major metropolitan areas are more expensive. The cost per square foot in New York City area is significantly higher than what you would pay in the mid-west.

You will also have to consider the type of restaurant you want to open. This will determine the size of the dining room and kitchen you will need, the type of equipment you will have to use, and the atmosphere and décor. Setting up a dining room for a deli or a casual family-style restaurant will be less expensive than decorating the same room for formal dining.

Back in the kitchen you will need to consider the menu you are planning on serving. Will fryers, a broiler, and a stove be enough for your operation, or will you also need convection ovens, and a salamander? Commercial kitchen equipment can be very expensive, so the more pieces of equipment you need, the more it will cost you. Fortunately, some pieces of commercial kitchen equipment will last a long time. You may be able to find the equipment you need at a used restaurant supply store. This can save you quite a bit of money.

Don’t forget to figure in storage space. The more extensive your menu is, the more space you will need to store all of the necessary ingredients. Walk in coolers and freezers cost between ,000 and ,000 depending on the size, so make sure you have it budgeted in.

All that has been covered so far are just a few of the basics to set your building up. It hasn’t begun to get into how much it will cost to actually get your business up and running. You need to consider the legal feels in getting your business established. There are also marketing costs so your customers will be ready when you open your doors.

How much does it cost to open a restaurant? It all depends on what you want your restaurant to be. Remember, the number one reason restaurants fail is because the owner did not have enough money to adequately fund the project. Make sure you do your homework and know how much you really need before you start down the path of restaurant ownership.

Seven Most Important Things to Consider When Planning to Open your Own Restaurant

Whether it is the love for cooking or the challenge of running your own business, opening a restaurant is a dream of many. But starting your own restaurant is an expensive proposition. Restaurant finance is possible in many forms, so don’t worry. Here are a number of things to consider:

Tip 1: Study your competitors. Anyone planning a new restaurant should spend weeks or months studying their competition carefully (menus, recipes, locations, customers, hours, layouts) and try to figure out what to copy from them and what to do differently.

Tip 2: Understand your target audience. .Go to all the different competitive restaurants and look around and see what kind of people go there, and what they order and when. Do they take away? Do they eat in? Do they drive to the restaurant, or walk in from the neighborhood? Talk to people and get their advice. Most people will be happy to tell you what they like and don’t like.

Tip 3: Location, location, location. Location is a huge factor. It is directly linked to restaurant finance, as the cost of rent is directly influenced by the location. Of course everyone wants to have a premium loation, but can you afford it? If you don’t have the money for a premium location, can you still succeed in a lesser location? This is a critical decision that will make or break your business.

Tip 4: Accurately estimate the cost of your hardware and personnel. When considering your startup, you need to give an honest assessment of the cost of your kitchen equipment, furniture, and personnel. Good restaurant finance and planning means a realistic approach to the costs of the business. Underestimate this and your budget will be blown out, and you will run into trouble.

Tip 5: Consider commercial bank loans. Though not one of the easiest methods, a commercial bank loan is a reasonable option for new restaurant finance. If you don’t have the capital, you can get a family member or friend to guarantee your loan. The trade-off is that you will probably have to pay the guarantor some profits.

Tip 6: Get several small investors. If you are able to convince other people that your restaurant will be profitable, they might provide restaurant finance. Some restaurateurs prefer receiving restaurant finance in the form of equity instead of straight loans. This is because the restaurateur does not have to pay interest on the loan amount. When starting a new restaurant, it may be easier to find several small investors who are willing to invest in your venture than to search for one big investor.

Tip 7: Partner with a silent investor. A partnership is another method of restaurant finance. A silent partner will provide restaurant finance yet give more freedom to the restaurateur to run the daily operations of the new restaurant as they see fit.

This is a trimmed down video from an open carry meet up in Sunnyvale California Dated July 28th 2009. I wanted to show how polite the police can be when video is rolling. Open Carriers have been stopped by these same officers (after July 28th) an treated much different. Sometimes with tazers at the ready. Sometimes stopping these people even though they had no firearms on them. And before people start claiming we are trying to entrap the officers, keep in mind we have proof of them violating citizens civil rights and admitting to doing so. If we wanted to sue them we would have already done so with the constitutional violations to date. No one called the cops on this outing. ( know this because I pulled the records) The officers learned of the meet up by browsing a public forum. On a separate occasion an off duty officer called dispatch, the responding officers told us that a “concerned citizen” called. BS that cop knew it was legal but wanted to have his cop buddies “deal with us” so he called dispatch.
