The Dallas Cowboys are poised to have a controversial, yet groundbreaking off-season. After the release of Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones it is obvious that the Cowboys are making a serious move to improve team chemistry. Is star wide receiver Terrell Owens the next on the list of former Cowboys?
It is evident that Terrell Owens is one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, but to the cons outweigh the pros for the organization? Owens is self centered, demonstrative, and extremely talkative. His off the field rants have obviously disgruntled his teammates and the administration of the Cowboys. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is fond of making risky decisions on troubled players, hence the previous signings of Pacman Jones, T.O. and lineman Tank Johnson. Jones’ son and VP Stephen Jones has discussed releasing Owens to improve team chemistry. Will Jerry Jones listen to his son?
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, and all-pro tight end Jason Witten had trouble coping with Owens’ issues this season. It is possible that Owens selfishness led to the Cowboys late-season collapse. Romo and Witten have a close relationship and this bothered Owens, and he was vocal about it. Owens also showed displeasure with Cowboys offensive cordinator Jason Garrett. Garrett, who some call a ‘offensive genius’ didnt show his smarts late in the season. Was this also because of Owens need for the spotlight?
Terrell Owens has stirred things up in Big D, will he continue to do so next season? Jerry Jones has very important decisions to make during the off season. The Cowboys signed athletic WR Roy Williams during the season, it is possible that he will serve as a replacement for Owens. Terrell Owens may have disrupted things in Dallas, but the administration has all the power. They will choose if Owens is a good fit for Dallas’ future. Terrell Owens is a star, but will there be a star on his helmet next season? Only time will tell.
